|TUSTIN, Calif., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Ricoh's Disc Media and Systems-Center (DMS-C) has introduced an ultra high-speed 12X media designed to support the first 12X CD-Recorders. It will begin shipping in mid-February. Called Ricoh Platinum(TM), the 12X multi-speed media also records at lower speeds, delivers 700MB for an extra 50 MB of storage or approximately 80 minutes of audio recording, and is one of the few recordable media manufactured in the United States.
The new media will be sold via Ricoh's e-commerce site and through other e-commerce vendors. MSRP is $38.99 per 25-disc pack and is also available through VAR and OEM channels where Ricoh is a major supplier. This media sales strategy allows Ricoh to sell super premium media at cost competitive prices.
The Platinum multi-speed CD-R media is based on Ricoh's advanced Phthalocyanine organic dye formula and includes enhancements in the base groove, recording and reflective layer thickness. The enhancements produce very low jitter characteristics, wider power margins at 1x and 12X speeds and a higher tolerance for recording variations. (When jitter rates are high and power margins low, block error rates (BLER) escalate).
"Users value the media quality because it means fewer errors in recording, which wastes time and media," said Takayuki Kuroshima, Ricoh DMS sales and marketing manager. "Ricoh media makes even substandard and old CD-burners record well because quality media is more tolerant of recorder-produced power, laser and speed fluctuations."
Ricoh's multi-speed media dramatically reduces write times by as much as 33 percent as compared to Ricoh's current 8X maximum recording speed. Archival life tests reveal superior durability boasting the longest life in the industry -- 200 years.
Recording at 12X requires as few as six minutes of recording time. Ricoh Platinum multi-speed CD-R discs are optimized for 1x, 2X, 4X, 6X, 8X and 12X recording. This enables the creation of high quality recordings at slower speeds to benefit audio masters, and at faster speeds, which is ideal for multi-megabyte reports, graphic files, photography, multi-media presentations and other large storage applications.
The new media offers an archival life of 200 years, and unlike magnetic media, cannot be accidentally erased or demagnetized. This durability makes it the ideal cost-effective choice for ensuring data reliability. Ricoh's media quality standards surpass industry requirements and offer consistently reliable recording.
