Rimage Offers Thermal DVD-R Print Capabilities

Exclusive Print Feature is offered on full line of Rimage Thermal Printers

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23 2000-- Rimage Corporation [NSDQ:RIMG] enters the DVD market by offering an exclusive feature that provides surface printing on DVD-R media. A pioneer in CD-R technology, Rimage offers this print option in their Microsoft® Window's based software that is included in their full line of thermal printing.

In the past, Rimage print technology has been limited to surface printing on CD-R media. In thermal printing, the print head must glide smoothly over the surface of the media in order to enable full coverage printing. DVD-R media includes a raised stacking ring that can damage a print head as it passes over the center ring of the media.

The Rimage print feature enables the print head to gently lift over the raised stacking ring providing full print capabilities on two thirds of the DVD-R media. "This exclusive feature has resulted in a marked increase in our DVD-R media sales", said Aaron H. Pratt, account manager for MicroBoards Technology, Inc. "As a distributor of Rimage thermal printers, we always welcome Rimage's focus on technical innovation."

Designed specifically for CD printing, Rimage's exclusive thermal technology delivers high-impact images that keeps pace with high-volume, on-demand production. The DVD print feature is available on the patented Prism thermal printer, the only thermal printer to offer full-color printing on most standard media including DVD media. Rimage thermal printers are available as a stand-alone printer or as part of a fully automated printing system. Thermal printing is the fastest and most cost effective true production printing available, saving thousands of dollars in production costs over other CD-R printers.

Rimage's automated CD duplicating and publishing systems are used in a variety of ways to distribute digital information on CDs. Kodak's PictureCD system uses Rimage CD-R technology to provide customers with an easy way to bring conventionally captured images into a digital format. Many game and software suppliers also employ Rimage systems for on-demand, customized CD production, and Rimage systems are used in a number of high-volume or just-in-time data distribution applications.

Minnesota-based Rimage Corporation has been in business since 1978 and has operations in the United States, Europe and Asia. The company's major products include digital publishing and duplication systems for CD-R media serving many diverse markets, including government, finance, health care, software manufacturing and entertainment.
