Manufacturer Announces Immediate Availability Of 12x10x32 High-Speed CD-Rewritable Drive

MONTEBELLO, Calif., Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- TEAC, a world leader in the manufacture of CD-ROM, DVD-ROM and CD-R/RW storage technology, today announces the shipping of its new 12x10x32 IDE-ATAPI CD-RW drive, an internal desktop PC peripheral used for the writing and rewriting of data and audio files onto CD-Recordable and CD-Rewritable media. The new 12x10x32 CD-RW represents the industry's fastest write and rewrite speeds and is part of a complete line-up of products that make TEAC the world's fourth largest producer of CD-RW drives.

The TEAC 12x10x32 CD-RW drive writes data or audio files at 12X (CD-R), rewrites at 10X (CD-RW) and can playback at 32X (CD-ROM) speeds, coinciding with the fastest CD-R and CD-RW media available today. Three times as fast as the industry's standard 4X drives, the 12x10x32 is capable of writing an entire 650MB CD-R in approximately 6 minutes, storing data and/or audio, including large presentations or graphics such as photos and home videos. The CD-RW drive can also be used to record mixed music CDs off the PC using downloaded WAV and MP3 files. The new drive delivers a digital extraction rate of 20x and provides a smooth, even flow of data supported by an impressive 4MB data buffer. In addition, the drive's 85ms average access time is the industry's fastest for CD-RWs, which provides for high-speed database searches. The 12x10x32 CD-RW also offers the lowest cost per megabyte and highest level of compatibility over any alternative storage solution.

The 12x10x32 CD-RW is available as a complete kit for Windows 95/98/NT and Windows 2000 Professional at an MSRP of $299.00.
