Yamaha Introduces High Performance 8x CD-RW Recorder

- Ultra SCSI Interface Increases Speed and Reliability -

BUENA PARK, Calif., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Yamaha Corporation of America announces the introduction of the CRW8424SZ internal ReWritable CD recorder with advanced Ultra SCSI interface. Designed as part of the new CRW8424 Series of high performance CD recorders, the CRW8424SZ incorporates the latest SCSI-3 technology to produce the highest level of speed, durability, and performance. The unit records at a top speed of 8X (writing a 650 MB CD in 9 minutes), reads CDs at a sustained maximum rate of 24X, and rewrites a CD-RW disk at 4X speed.

The CRW8424SZ drive offers 140 ms average access time, 4 MB buffer memory, transfer rates of up to 3600 KB/sec, and built-in flash ROM for online upgrades. Yamaha's proprietary LSI chip set, optical head and the new "Write Strategy" are also incorporated for reliable, high-speed, high-quality recording. The CRW8424SZ internal SCSI-3 unit is currently available at an estimated street price of $349.99.

Since the late 1980s, Yamaha has been the leader in CD-recorder development, producing high performance recorders which are considered to be industry standards. The company introduced the first programmable CD-recording system in 1988, the first 2X speed CD recording system in 1990, the first 4X half-height CD-R drive in 1993, the first 4X speed writing CD ReWritable drive in 1997 and the first 4X speed rewriting CD-ReWritable drive in 1998.

The CRW8424SZ is available to resellers through a variety of major computer distributors, and to consumers through mail order catalogs, Internet resellers, and major computer retailers. The retail version, available directly from and only through Yamaha's Consumer Products Division, includes a software bundle which features Adaptec Easy CD Creator, Direct CD and Toast, Adobe PageMill, Photo Deluxe Business Edition, plus a CD labeling software and application tool. In addition, the package contains Graphic Corp's software suite that allows users to create CD labels and jewel-case inserts, format large-scale posters, edit photos and manipulate graphics.
